It is surprising that, in the large variety of shapes in nature
and man-made ornamental patterns, there is a finite number (moreover
a small number) of possible arrangements with regular repetition
(that is, possible symmetry types).
It is even more surprising that artists from all over the world,
in their quest for new designs, produced examples of all the
possible cases much earlier than mathematicians considered the
problem and enumerated the possible arrangements.
This exhibition, addressed to everyone (2 years and above),
illustrates the problem of classifying plane and 3-dimensional
figures with respect to their symmetry type.
